Halloween is going to be very different this year, but it can still be a fun event for everyone in your community if you get creative. We have 4 different ideas that the community, and residents individually, can do. We also found this incredible website that shows each county and your risk level with different ideas of what to do for Halloween based on the risk level. Community ideas

Trunk-or-Treat

Trunk or treat is the 2020 Halloween trend. It’s a great opportunity for HOAs and condos to organize a safe Halloween activity. Residents can bring their decorated cars and line up so people can walk past. You could add a competition element, by crowning the best-decorated car. 

To avoid all the kids taking candies from the same bowl, some adults could give them sanitized candy bags. 

Parents should be there with their kids, even if they’re old enough to be on their own to make sure they don’t get too over-excited and break social distancing rules. If you’re asking everyone to wear masks, you could also have the best-decorated mask competition. 

Socially Distant Parades

Depending on the rules in your area, people could walk alongside the parade or not. This idea can be customized depending on the covid situation in your area.

If you’re in a low-risk area, then people can be encouraged to walk or cycle in the parade, along with decorated cars.

If you’re in a higher-risk area, then people should be asked to stay in their front yard while the parade goes by to decrease the risk of contamination.  

People in the parade can throw candy to kids standing in their front yards, to make sure that no one comes too close to each other.

Socially distanced home ideas

Individual homes can set up a table with candy spread along with it, so people can come and pick it up. You could include a couple of pop-up ghosts to give people a friendly scare.  Otherwise, you could throw or send candy from your door to the people trick or treating, like this person. This is a great way to get into the spirit of Halloween without running the risk of covid. You can see and entertain the kids in your neighborhood, while also keeping your distance.

A Candy Graveyard

You can buy tombstones that you can set up in your front garden. Then by each tombstone, you can place a bouquet of candy by each. You could also make bags of candy that you can hide around the tombstones so kids can pick up candy from your garden instead of trick or treating. 

If you’re living in a high-risk area, then maybe your children could have a candy hunt around your makeshift cemetery. That way they don’t have to leave the house for Halloween fun.
