5 Ways to Celebrate Thanksgiving in Your Community

Thanksgiving is just around the corner and if you haven’t already planned what to do in your HOA, there’s still time! We’ve got five a-maize-ing ideas (sorry not sorry!) for your community that they will just gobble up. I promise that’s the last pun!

Dinner

The obvious thing to do is a Thanksgiving dinner with the whole community. This can be difficult if you have a large community. You can make it easier by having a potluck dinner, everyone can contribute and come together in true holiday spirit.

Otherwise, you could ask a catering company to make your Thanksgiving dinner. This makes it smoother and fancier, but as you would have to charge residents it makes it a little more exclusive.

Charity

If you don’t want to go all out with a Thanksgiving dinner your community could give to charity. There is a myriad of ways to do that, you could have a raffle or a competition. You could put out donation collection points for clothes, old furniture, and non-perishable foods to give to the organizations that the board chooses.

You could open up the choice of which charity you would like to donate to the community by posting a survey on Neigbrs by Vinteum. You could also organize a blood drive in your condo or HOA. The world is your oyster when it comes to giving back and Thanksgiving is a great time to reflect on what we have and how we can help others.

Baking Competition

Baking competitions are a great event as the weather gets colder. You could ask people to donate money or non-perishable food to a charity to participate. A bit of healthy competition is an awesome way to bring people together, and you get to try cakes from different cultures too.

Give Thanks

This holiday is also a time to give thanks, and that includes the people in your community. As part of a Thanksgiving event, say thank you to those star volunteers, or that amazing board member who always goes above and beyond. Perhaps your community manager was an angel during a crisis or a member of staff deserves recognition. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to say thank you, let them know how much they’re appreciated, and maybe give them a little present or award.

Art Project

Continuing on the theme of thanks, why not create a mural of what everyone in the community is thankful for? You could pin a picture of a tree trunk in your HOA’s office or clubhouse and ask people to write messages with what they’re thankful for written on cut-out leaves. Instead of using paper you could also gather some branches and have people hang gratitude leaves to the branches. This adds some collaborative art to the condo as well as giving people a chance to pause and give thanks for everything they have.

Wrapping Up Thanksgiving

Any of these ideas will bring the spirit of Thanksgiving into the community and bring people together. If you’re just now trying to organize a Thanksgiving event, then go for a pot luck dinner, baking competition or donation points.

The donation points could be baskets or boxes at one point in the community where people could drop things off. You could keep donations going until Christmas or a bit after. If you have more time a proper dinner or charity event would be a lovely way to spend time together over Thanksgiving.
