What is HOA board elections?

Board elections are how homeowners fill the association’s leadership seats, typically a president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer, usually at the annual meeting. Only owners generally get to vote, not renters, though an owner who can’t attend can hand their vote to a proxy, and depending on the state, ballots can also be cast by mail or online.

Why does HOA board elections matter?

An election residents don’t know about or don’t bother participating in often fails to hit quorum, which invalidates the vote and leaves the board unable to seat anyone new. A board that communicates well before voting opens, and makes casting a ballot easy, is the difference between an election that reflects the community and one a handful of engaged residents decide alone.
