Board elections are the process homeowners go through to vote new members onto the HOA’s board, usually held once a year, or however often the governing documents specify. Candidates typically get a chance to share their goals before residents cast a vote, whether that’s at the annual meeting, by mail, or online.

A fair, well-run election is one of the clearest signals to residents that the board actually represents them, not just whoever’s been sitting in the seat the longest. Sloppy or confusing elections breed exactly the kind of suspicion boards spend years trying to undo.
