Board Meeting Minutes

What is board meeting minutes?

Board meeting minutes are the official written record of what happened during a meeting, decisions made, votes taken, key discussions, usually kept by the board secretary. They don’t need to capture every word, just the substance of what the board actually decided.

Why does board meeting minutes matter?

Minutes are the board’s memory once everyone’s forgotten the specifics of a meeting from eight months ago. When a resident questions a decision, or a new board member wants to understand why a policy exists, minutes are what settles the question instead of an argument.

When You’ll Run Into This

The gaps in a board’s minutes usually only become obvious when someone goes looking for a specific decision and can’t find it. Our guide to mastering HOA meeting minutes includes a template that keeps this from happening.
