What is proxy voting?
Proxy voting lets a homeowner authorize someone else, a neighbor, a board member, a friend, to vote on their behalf at an HOA meeting. Proxies can be limited to specific issues or apply generally to everything on the agenda, and the community’s bylaws govern exactly how the process works.
Why does proxy voting matter?
Proxy voting is often what makes quorum achievable at all in communities where getting every resident physically in the room is unrealistic. It’s a practical tool, but one that needs clear rules to prevent one resident from quietly accumulating outsized influence.
