HOA Member

What is an HOA member?

An HOA member is simply the owner of a property, a single-family home, a townhouse, a condo unit, within a community governed by a homeowners association. Membership isn’t optional; it comes automatically with owning property in the community.

Why does an HOA member matter?

Every right and responsibility in an HOA, voting, dues, rule compliance, traces back to this basic membership status. Understanding that membership is tied to ownership, not choice, helps explain why the rules apply even to residents who never wanted to join in the first place.

When You’ll Run Into This

This distinction matters most when someone’s trying to figure out who actually gets a vote, or who’s on the hook for dues after a property changes hands.
